Install it on both computers.
JoyRemote goes on each computer you want to use or reach. Version 1.3.59. Free on your own network, for ever — there is nothing to buy to try it.
Windows will warn you about this installer. It is not yet signed with a code-signing certificate, so SmartScreen shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” box. Choose More info and then Run anyway. We would rather tell you that here than have you discover it and wonder.
Because it is unsigned, the check below is the one you have. Compare it against the file you downloaded before running it:
0ff4d8ce0a82c07b2f48dc3f9c3b0b9fdffecfbdce81c833e5affe23ccf24aa9
In PowerShell:
Get-FileHash .\JoyRemote-Setup-1.3.59.exe
macOS and Linux
Both are supported and are built from the same source. There is no packaged download for them yet — they are installed from the source package with the bootstrap script for your system, which fetches Python 3.12 and the dependencies. Write to info@joyremote.com if you want a hand with it.
Then what
- Install it on both computers and leave the one you want to reach switched on.
- On the same network, each computer finds the other by itself.
- Away from home, the computer you want to reach shows a ten-digit number. Type that number on the other one.
- Somebody at the far computer approves the connection, unless it has been told to remember yours.
Removing it
Add or remove programs on Windows, in the usual place. It takes its settings and its key with it.
